There’s a leaky pipe problem in engineering. We’ve been great at getting girls interested in engineering, and the percentage of women going into undergraduate engineering is increasing. That is not translating to more working engineers. What is happening between the undergraduate level and the working engineer, and why are we losing women? I think we need to change the culture in engineering workplaces. SWE Toronto is hereto help change that culture, and provides an outlet and support for women working on changing that culture now.
I am currently the University Outreach Coordinator for Society of Women Engineers Toronto Professional Affiliate. This is an elected position that is part of the board of directors. My goals are to connect undergraduate and graduate students in engineering with SWE Toronto, increase membership and engagement with students, and provide programming and outreach opportunities to existing students.
